Humor Terry and John 1 Jan 2009 Congratulations to Sir Terence Pratchett, or SurPterry as we shall undoubtedly come to call him (although I’m tempted to doubt it as he is the last bloke I think would ever be lost for words). But overlooked in the reports is this guy, who gets an OBE: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOi_wxypeGc&hl=en&fs=1] He’s John… Read More

And even once you get beyond that stage, nowadays you find yourself in temporary positions. Anyone have a job for a biostatistician? Have cat, will travel.

I thought I announced it, but I have a second postdoc now at the University of Sydney, starting next year. It’s on religion.
John, this reminds me. I’ve been wanting to ask you if your job search is going okay. If it’s going tough, any chance of renewing or finding a new postdoc?
I shall remain an eternal student until the day I die or lose my remaining mental faculties. As it happens, the profile was amended, as you can see if you read down past the pic… The blog won’t change. It is still for whatever is passing through my forebrain at a moment. My research is on the naturalisation of religion.

Congratulations.:) Perhaps I missed the announcement. You’ll need to redo your profile. Add more about a varied career.:) Is it Philosophy of Religion or plain Religion? I suppose I agree with you more about species concepts than religion. But you might have a stronger background in religion compared to biology.:) We agree that religion tends to change. But I suppose we also have our differences.:) For example, I see primitive monotheism in the Yahwist and a maturing monotheism in the Deuteronomist. So what direction will you take your blog?

“As every enquiry, which regards religion, is of the utmost importance, there are two questions in particular, which challenge our attention, to wit, that concerning its foundation in reason, and that concerning its origin in human nature.” David Hume, The Natural History of Religion The latter is the naturalisation project.

John, I’m not finding a clear definition of “the naturalization of religion”. Could you give us a simple one paragraph definition?
