Online, about being online 12 Jul 2008 My paper in TREE is now available as an in-press corrected proof. It is titled “The roles, reasons and restrictions of science blogs”, so thanks to you guys (and Bob O’Hara in particular) for the raw material and opportunities. Administrative
Administrative A piece of useful software for Mac-using teachers 15 Oct 2007 I gave a lecture yesterday on animal minds, and in the course of it tried to show some YouTube videos in Keynote by linking to the pages (tool using crows, by the way, and the excerpt from Life of Birds by Attenborough on Japanese crows using stop lights to get… Read More
Administrative In England’s green and wet land 25 Jul 2007 So, I finally have access to the internet. For the past few days I’ve been either in London, on planes, trains or in Exeter, where I am now for the ISHPSSB biennial conference of philosophers and historians (and some sociologists) of science. In London I walked myself silly (getting the… Read More
Administrative The begging bowl 2 Jun 200922 Jun 2018 A few eagle eyed readers will note that I have added a “Donate” button in the sidebar, and not content with that shameless plug for grift, a “Donate” page as well in the tabs. When I was at Seed’s Scienceblogs, I was on easy street. They paid for all the… Read More
Nice article. Is: “If a blog is not deleted when it becomes active (and it is general good practice that it should not be)” a mistake, do you mean active?
I noticed that typo, too — I think you meant to write “inactive”. Also, I don’t think I’d label Dave Munger a medical blogger; he blogs on psychology at cogdaily.

And psych is a subset of medicine, nicht wahr? Nein. Psychiatry is a medical discipline. But psychology and cog-sci are studies of the mind. (In the US, psychiatrists are MDs, while psychologists are PhDs.) Saying psychology is a subset of medicine would be like saying that cell biology is a subset of medicine (at least that’s the way I see it).

Tell that to the medical students at my local university who have to spend four semesters studying psycology and writing difficult exams on the subject. You could also tell it to my health insurance who pay 120 Euro an hour to have a psycologist treat me for my mental illness 🙁

In the U.S. a psychologist does not have to be a PhD. She can have a MPsych, or an MA, MS, MEd. MCouns, as long as she has the required course work and certification. There are two psychologists in my family, one with a PhD and one with a MA. Both work[ed] as school psychologists.
hey wilkins, can you send me a PDF? for some weird reason, i am supposed to purchase the piece to read it. *pouts*
