Uncategorized Last century’s best philosopher? 1 Mar 2009 Brian Leiter has asked who that was in the train of the New York Times declaring that it was Wittgenstein. So far, Russell is leading. Russell? My goodness, he was important but hardly the best – most read more than best, I suspect. Moore was better than Russell. As to the… Read More

Uncategorized Blogging the history of science 11 Aug 20084 Oct 2017 A chance link to my blog has led me through an ego search to find Will Thomas’ most excellent Ether Wave Propaganda blog. Will is a historian of science post-doc, I think, and he has an engaging style. Coincidentally, John Lynch lists various links to history of science, including a… Read More

Pedantic bastard here. They’ve found a body buried near the altar of the cathedral where the astronomer-Canon worked, or served, or whatever you call it. DNA from the remains matches that from hair found in a book owned by Copernicus. Therefore it’s the same bloke – probably Copernicus, but maybe not. A suitable bit of uncertainty about a man who caused rather a lot.
I kind agree with valdemar although i fail to understand the use of the phrase “caused a lot” i would say and am indeed saying that the man discovered a lot without the intention to cause something.
