Evolution Random things 4 Jul 2007 Back from the drinking sessionconference, with many good thoughts. One in particular is due to the talk by Aiden Lyons at ANU on probability and evolution – after more than two decades trying to figure it out, I had to wait for a grad student to put it all neatly… Read More
Humor God causes a Sumerian recession 17 Dec 2009 The Onion, as always, nails it… Members of the earth’s earliest known civilization, the Sumerians, looked on in shock and confusion some 6,000 years ago as God, the Lord Almighty, created Heaven and Earth. According to recently excavated clay tablets inscribed with cuneiform script, thousands of Sumerians—the first humans to… Read More

There are few excellent movies on that list (and no, not shaolin soccer, which I reluctantly admit to seeing). But he’s wrong – if you actually went and counted them, then you have no life.
80, so supposedly I have a life. But I’ve seen a lot of other movies. What’s so special about this particular list? I reject the premise that *these* have significance and maintain I have no more life than anyone else.

Hrmm. Either I have a life, or study too much to watch movies either… Stupid uni *goes off to study for todays exam*
This is absurd. Obviously he hates sci-fi and Marvel Comics adaptions. Why not put some things up there that Really indicate having no life? Like for instance: More than 1 freaky friday more than 1Parent Trap More than 2 20,000 leauges under the sea More than 1 Journey to the Center of the Earth Spy kids- one x for each. Johney English. Mad Max. Drum Line. The Piano The English Patient Maid of Honor Ferngully Fergully 2 Butterfly Effect De ja Vu More than 1 Lethal Weapon Movie More than 1 Die Hard movie A.I. More than 1 movie involving the Three Musketeers The Dark Knight (sarcasm) Dune More than 3 James Bond Movies Escape from New York City The Blair Witch Project Alphaville That Darn Cat More than 2 Jim Carrey Movies More than 2 Adam Sandler Movies Blades of Glory I Robot Adam’s Rib Slueth more than 2 Saw movies Multiple infractions of 1 or more count (saw all 4 lethal weapons, that’s 3 strikes). Watching only parts of movies does not count. How about foreign films, indie films? This person is not being realistic whatsoever in his list. He picks the obvious and says “look at me- I watch TV instead of Movies, so neener neener!” PSH

Don’t mind the list. If any of you HAS seen “Battle Queen 2020”, then you have no life. And that’s official. No, seriously, Battle Queen is hard to beat. You really need to see it to realize how much you didn’t miss. That is some baaaaaaaaaaad movie! Also, any movie starring Canadian actor Michael Paré will do. That guy’s given an all new meaning to “cheesy”.

27 1/2. Hurray, I have a life, how come I never knew that. Notice how many of these are Hollywood productions, and not even any (that I noticed) from the classic 30s. No Australian films, no French ones, only one or two from Asia, etc. There’s a whole world out there, folks.

I have only seen 60 of them. Apparently I have a life. I guess I better get back online and play some more Guildwars.

I seem to have seen a nice round 20. It is arguable that such a count is not a sign of having a life, but exactly the reverse. The question is, could I rattle off 86 films I’ve seen that are not on the list? What I find entertaining is to count the number of times I’ve seen The Greatest Movie Ever Made. I’ve seen that about ten times. Oddly, it came out several ways: Once it was a delicate French tale of adultery. Another time it was a delicate French tale of adultery. Another time (actually more than once) it was about this newspaper guy in a big house. Yet another (a couple of times), it was a Japanese revenge story. And then there was the time they were in a hurry, and they only showed a few minutes about how it ain’t a fit night out for man nor beast. Oddly enough, not one of these was on the list. I presume that the items on my list will be recognizable, though the first two might be a trifle ambiguous.

What I want to know is what the heck “get a life” really means? I am pretty sure it is meant as a rude response, but honestly, doesn’t everyone has a life, if they are breathing? Didn’t not count how many movies I had seen, but I am pretty sure I would fall into the “get a life” catagory. Still it seems a very subjective list although if it the time spent watching a movie, any list would do. But I do think that a list of episodes of Reality TV that one had watched would be more appropriate to the insult.
