Honey, I accidentally redesigned the blog! 3 Aug 201122 Jun 2018 Oh well. I was playing with WordPress design templates and I clicked the wrong button. Now I have this rather clean design, but I can’t fix the banner because Illustrator CS2 no longer runs on OS X Lion. When I get a new copy I’ll rework it to suit the size of the template. If you notice something missing apart from my sanity, let me know. Administrative
Administrative Wilkins in foreign climes 27 Feb 2008 Well, actually the weather in Tempe, Arizona, seems to be very much like the weather here in Brisbane, but that’s where I’m going. For a couple of weeks. Also in Salt Lake City. So blogging shall be sparse unless I get inspired at the Systematics and Biodiversity workshop, as I… Read More
Administrative Don’t use my uni email [do] 27 Jan 202319 Apr 2023 Although I am an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne, now that I am no longer employed, the IT department begs to differ, so I have lost my uni email access for a while. Later: IT and the uni have permitted me to be listed as an honorary fellow… Read More
Administrative What I have been doing lately, and why 30 May 2009 It seems like only yesterday that we moved to these new digs, when in actual fact it’s a few days before yesterday. But I have been busy in real life, which is an uncommon occurence (having a real life, I mean), so I have not blogged as well or deeply… Read More
FYI, you can run Snow Leopard in a virtual machine on Lion. (As far as I know, that’s legal, since you’re still running a Mac OS on Apple hardware.) Then you can run Illustrator on the virtualized Snow Leopard, though it’ll probably be kind of slow. Two questions: 1) Why upgrade to Lion before checking if you have any PowerPC apps that you still use? I thought it was pretty well known that Rosetta was not in OS X Lion. 2) Why do you even need Illustrator? Sure, it’s a useful tool for professionals, but it’s expensive overkill for a web banner of a blog. If I were in your place, I probably would have used GIMP, Inkscape, or some cheapo shareware.
I used Illustrator professionally for many years. I know it and can use it easily. I didn’t think I’d need to use it for a while, when I upgraded.
Virtually every time I’ve fooled with the template at my blog, I’ve screwed it up. Which is why I came up with the excuse that I’m striving for classic simplicity.
I like the new look. Much cleaner, much cooler, much hipper. Maybe I’ll understand more of what some people write here now I can read it more easily.
It’s very, uh, bright. Light and bright. If I was reading this on something really small, I could use it as a flashlight (you upsidedowny folks probably say torch).
I quite like the nice and clean new default WordPress theme (Twenty Eleven). I have adapted with a few tweaks for one of my other blogs: http://lifesgrandeur.com/
