Honey, I accidentally redesigned the blog! 3 Aug 201122 Jun 2018 Oh well. I was playing with WordPress design templates and I clicked the wrong button. Now I have this rather clean design, but I can’t fix the banner because Illustrator CS2 no longer runs on OS X Lion. When I get a new copy I’ll rework it to suit the size of the template. If you notice something missing apart from my sanity, let me know. Administrative
Administrative In which I express gratitude and humility 4 Jun 2009 When I asked for donations, I expected a few $5 donations here and there. I never expected the amounts I got. To the dozen or so donors so far, my immense gratitude. I feel like this: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IynQCmqvXZs&hl=en&fs=1] Some have questioned my need for this, and this is a reasonable inquiry…. Read More
Administrative Travel diary 1 3 Oct 2009 I suppose that I ought to be documenting the World Tour, so while I am on the train to München, I’ll briefly cover the past few days. This train travels so fast that light is bent on the way to the iPhone… Read More
Administrative Busy, busy, busy 23 Jul 2008 I’ve been uncommonly productive in the last few days – first the book went off (and then I find that one chapter needs a complete rewrite, but hey), then I sent off a paper based on the talk I gave a couple of weeks ago in Melbourne, then today I… Read More
FYI, you can run Snow Leopard in a virtual machine on Lion. (As far as I know, that’s legal, since you’re still running a Mac OS on Apple hardware.) Then you can run Illustrator on the virtualized Snow Leopard, though it’ll probably be kind of slow. Two questions: 1) Why upgrade to Lion before checking if you have any PowerPC apps that you still use? I thought it was pretty well known that Rosetta was not in OS X Lion. 2) Why do you even need Illustrator? Sure, it’s a useful tool for professionals, but it’s expensive overkill for a web banner of a blog. If I were in your place, I probably would have used GIMP, Inkscape, or some cheapo shareware.
I used Illustrator professionally for many years. I know it and can use it easily. I didn’t think I’d need to use it for a while, when I upgraded.
Virtually every time I’ve fooled with the template at my blog, I’ve screwed it up. Which is why I came up with the excuse that I’m striving for classic simplicity.
I like the new look. Much cleaner, much cooler, much hipper. Maybe I’ll understand more of what some people write here now I can read it more easily.
It’s very, uh, bright. Light and bright. If I was reading this on something really small, I could use it as a flashlight (you upsidedowny folks probably say torch).
I quite like the nice and clean new default WordPress theme (Twenty Eleven). I have adapted with a few tweaks for one of my other blogs: http://lifesgrandeur.com/
