I'm back, but busy!

At last, the third world internet system that Australia has inherited from successively stupid governments (including the present one) has delivered my internet access. Only took four weeks and the threat of a lawsuit. Now, if I can only remember what it does. Something like telegrams, I think…

I am going to be as busy as a flea-ridden one-armed man up a ladder for a short while, since my teaching begins next week, and I must do a few chores that the lack of internet delayed. So instead, I will post links to interesting posts and pages for a while. I am working on interesting things, rest assured, but they wait maturation before they see the light of day.

Below the fold:

Why evolutionary psychology is neither evolutionary nor psychology, from Boing Boing. I think the author is too nice…

The Ark was circular, according to a clay tablet dating some 1200 years before the book of Genesis.

Deconstructing Social Darwinism (I did it first! But Eric does it right, which counts).

Paul Bettany discovers that Darwin said “Fuck!” a lot.

I think it was worse than in a Thirld World country, or at least worse than in the one I live, México. Here you can get a fast Internet connection from the phone company almost right away if you already have a phone line, or you can get Internet service from the cable TV companies in less than a week. Finally, you can get Internet service from the cell phone companies via their 3G network and it isn’t much more expensive than fixed connections. By the way, did you know that since the 3.0 software version you can use your 3G iPhone as an Internet modem, either through an USB connection or Bluetooth?

  2. Shit! Now I’ll have to call back the St. Bernhards and the cognac barrels cost a fortune!

No, I’ll keep the cognac barrels. The dogs were delicious, though…

  3. internet problems? i can SO relate! it took weeks to get our internet connection, lots of phone calls in two languages, etc., until finally, we grabbed a guy from the shop and dragged him, kicking and screaming, to our flat and imprisoned him there until he fixed the problem. it’s amazing what kidnapping does to improve access to services that were paid for, but not accessible to us.
