My next ambition is to teach myself to levitate.
So far I’ve only succeeded in my dreams. I practice transcendental meditation and there is a phase where you’re meant to lift off the ground. It hasn’t happened yet. I’ll manage it one day. In fact, I’m aiming beyond levitation. I want to be able to fly like a superhero. I won’t be happy until I can fly across oceans and cities, saving people from being murdered.

Back in the Old-olithic, I had a boyfriend who was a TMer. I watched him meditate now and then – he never achieved liftoff. I did not try to convince him it was hooey, waste of time. Guess who was a [unnatural] blonde in those days.
When I was at girl scout camp we used to do this levitation thing – did anyone else do this? – one girl lies on the ground and the others gather around her, with one finger from each hand tucked under her body. The girl at her head starts the chant “she looks pale” and the others repeat one at a time around the circle. When it gets back to the head girls she continues with “she is pale” which goes around, then continuing with “she looks sick” “she is sick” “she looks dead” “she is dead” and finally the leader says “we can lift her” and voila, with barely any effort at all, the girl would be easily liftedseveral feet into the air. I participated many times, and was lifted high in the air once. If we were silly and laughed etc it wouldn’t work and the girl would really feel like dead weight so I don’t think it was because we were skinny 9-year-olds!
Yes Isobel we used to do this at school, once to a teacher named Mr Jones who was 16 stone.
It was amazing as he lifted high in the air.
Being only about 15 at the time, we did not think much of it, anything seems possible at that age.
All I know is that it worked!
In my RSS reader, the quote formatting did not come across, so it looked like you were saying that levitation is your next ambition. I was asking myself, hm, what is John about here? Quite a laugh for me.

btw, I’ve never had another paranormal (if that’s the right word) experience, though I’ve met many people who have seen ghosts, UFO’s, etc, which always seemed pretty wacky to me. But I have never been able to dismiss them 100% because of that damn levitation experience, which to the best of my memory, really happened. And my memory is pretty good, and includes the unsuccessful attempts. I mean I wasn’t 2, I was nine or ten….
Isabel: there’s a trick to that. The chant gets everyone synchronised, so when they all lift together each person is only taking a small portion of the weight. The “one finger” bit is completely misleading because you can lift a lot of weight with one finger. Ask a climber.
There you go, now you can go ahead and laugh at the UFO people.
Hell I’ve seen a UFO. Nice round object travelling slowly at about 10m/s, glowing brightly. Of course, we didn’t know about ball lightning at that time, so it was definitely a UFO.
Those yogi would have just as much success with a lot less effort if they just tried skipping.
I’d love to see them try it on concrete.
Skipping would certainly be the cheaper option. Funds are being sought made to have t.m. introduced into schools in the States.
